Evelyn and the Fiascos

about

The track for this episode used to be the track that is now “With The Void Ahead”—but feedback from beta listeners led me to rewrite this one to try to better nail the emotion that this scene needed. It’s a score for a scene in episode fourteen of Elysian Road where Evelyn Lydner goes to recruit a band of revolutionaries to help her with an important mission. In the process, she gives a speech, as any good military leader would, about the dangers ahead and the cause they would be fighting for. I’m really glad that I rewrote the track, because I definitely feel that this piece is a much better score for that sequence than the sort-of over-the-top piece I had written previously. The new iteration of “Evelyn and the Fiascos” is much more subtle and more true to Evelyn’s character.

Featured instruments include the same wonky synthetic piano used in “Battle of the Mind” to play Evelyn’s theme when she offers a hand to Fergus. It’s the most featured instrument of the bunch and I think it really fits Evelyn’s sort of emotionless, awkward but serious personality. It plays what has been Evelyn’s A theme up to this point (the verse of the lyrical song I wrote for her, yet to be released). A solo horn plays the B theme, underscored by some spiccato strings and a snare drum, highlighting her military background, which is just coming to the forefront in this episode for the first time in the show.

Evelyn reveals in this scene that she was a genetically modified child, born and trained specifically to be a general for the Thousand Island Imperium, before a traitor in the Imperium showed her that the organization was evil and helped her escape. This traitor...might come back in Elysian Road’s second season.
